Renew, Recharge & Regenerate: An 8-Day Chakra Tuning Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica

with Deb Buck

December 31, 2021 - January 7th, 2022

Immersed in Nature’s sanctuary, this oceanside Hatha Yoga retreat will support our bodies, hearts and minds to renew, recharge and regenerate over the New Year. We will transition into this new beginning together with practices, community and relationship with Nature. Each day’s practice will be an invitation to transform and fortify ourselves through tuning one chakra per day. Classes will be woven with rich insight through the wisdom of Patanjali Yoga Sutras to compliment the process.

In the summer season of Costa Rica on the awe-inspiring Osa Peninsula, we will follow the path towards home inside of ourselves through playfulness, self-reflection & honoring the sacred. The practice of Yoga in Nature reflects to us the deep innate wisdom and remembrance which lies within each of us. This retreat is a call to heal, a call to remember, a call to fortify. The practice of Yoga is a process in which we literally come to land in ourselves.

Blue Osa, a place dedicated to deep healing and personal growth, located on the Osa Peninsula, one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. In the jungle, 50 yards from a secluded beach.

“As a student of Deb’s yoga classes for the past 4 years, I have found her to be an extraordinary teacher. Deb has the rare gift of holding a container for her students allowing each to feel seen and cared for according to their own needs. Deb effortlessly connects the spiritual practice of yoga with the physical and challenges her students to lean more deeply into the postures through the teachings of the yoga sutras. Her classes always give you something to take into your day for reflection and practice. My posture and alignment have improved significantly under Deb’s expert guidance. Sutra Class 1~ Friday, June 8th from 7-9pm~ $40

Patanjali uses the term Kriya Yoga as the active purification of the physical, mental and emotional bodies. The first aspect he mentions is Tapas, the value of challenging our self to keep us vital and dynamic. We will explore Tapas in reference to the Sutra on practice of asana and pranayama .

Asana Class 1 ~ Saturday, June 9th from 9:30am-12 ~ $60
The Yoga asana can be applied systematically as an act of purification, known as Kriya. This subtle yet profound shift penetrates the physical and subtle bodies in a way that moves energy to uplift and invigorate all of our systems. Standing, balancing and twisting asana will provide the context to explore freedom within the content of our being.

Sutra Class 2 ~ Saturday, June 9th from 3-5pm ~ $50
The second aspect of Kriya Yoga is Svadhyaya, self-analysis. An inquiry into the nature of Self and how the Sutra encourage the art of unfolding into one’s most authentic Self.

Asana Class 2 ~ Sunday, June 10th from 9:30am-12pm ~ $60
The ancient masters describe strength as the development of Sushumna Nadi, or the central nervous system and Bandha as a point of stability to explore concentrated awareness. This class will work directly with the nervous system as the link between the Earth’s magnetic field and accessing cellular lightness in our personal sphere.

Sutra Class 3 ~ Sunday, June 10th from 3-5pm ~ $50
The third aspect of Kriya Yoga is Ishwarapranidhana, recognition that there is a greater perspective that holds all of creation in balance. An inquiry into the nature of the spirit and the soul, and how to leverage one’s Karma into Dharma - our unique offering of self to the Self.

Hatha Yoga & Philosophy Intensive
with Bhavani Maki at Yogadurango

"The Nadi - Subtle Energy Channels"

Classically, Hatha Yoga clears the Nadi, or conduits of prana, as channels for the awakening of consciousness and the development of spiritual power. We will integrate the yogik practices of asana, pranayama, the Patanjali Yoga Sutra, psychology, neuroscience and the development of emotional intelligence to further enhance our exploration and experience of Yoga as the science and art of Self Realization. Come share in the joy of learning, in an exploration of the Nadi, or subtle body energy channels, that open us to the spiritual life.

Introduction to the Patanjali Yoga Sutra; The Yogi's Road Map, Friday, 5:30-7:30 pm at Main Ave
Classically, the Yoga practitioner in the East is well equipped with the definitive guide to the Yogic process, Patanjali's Yoga Sutra. In the West, we are left to negotiate and navigate our ways with little or no advice. The Yoga Sutra are considered to be the definitive text for Yoga and a map of the Yogic experience. Revealing the deeper underlying nature of our being, and how to quell our self-negating tendencies, the indescribable is well described, and is indispensable in helping us to proceed with confidence, clarity, and ultimately, effectiveness.

Saturday, July 8th from 9-11:30am at Main, $40

Drdah Bhumih: Firmly Grounded-Standing & Balancing Postures
Patanjali encourages yoga aspirants to develop a practice that is steadfast and firmly grounded. We will investigate standing and balancing postures as a means to systematically approach to stabilize our connection to the Earth with the intent of accessing greater freedom within the self. Diagnostic as well as curative, these postures are the vehicle for developing a sustainable practice that has the qualities of integrity in alignment and form.

Saturday, July 8th from 2-4:30pm at Main, $40

Patanjali Yoga Sutra Talk II:  Navigating Consciousness
If Yoga is the dissolving of all self-negating thought patterns, and tendencies, then getting free is the key!  We will continue to explore Patanjali's prescription of Jungle Medicine (Yoga), through Yoga's diagnostic process, the remedies, and health of the mind, body, and spirit.

Sunday, July 9th from 9-11:30am at Main, $40

Hip openers, the Keys to Freedom
Unlocking the pelvis liberates the stem of the spine,  the flower of the brain and ultimately the nectar of clear consciousness. We will explore the seated postures of the Ashtanga Yoga system, in a way that is safe for the knees, and appropriate for the spine.

Sunday, July 9th from 2-4:30pm at Main, $40

Klesha: Developing Emotional Intelligence
In this next conversation, we will continue to spin the wonderful stories of the Yoga Sutra, and explore how the stories' imagery opens a window into the inner workings of the psyche. Journey further into the workings of your mind and emotions, as Patanjali maps out the 5 Klesha, or afflictions, at the root of all suffering.
